This is the ad in the newspaper that caught my eye. Rang the number Saturday afternoon and arranged to see it Sunday morning. I drove the 200 kms next morning and was there at 9.00. As soon as I saw it in Harvey's drive way I had bought it...love Blue cars !!!
This is how I bought the Satellite except for the wheels, it had 5 slot Mags when I picked it up.
I bought the Plymouth off the original owner Harvey in October 1982. Harvey bought it new in California & drove it on holidays around the USA for 6 weeks. He then shipped it home to Victoria, Australia and had it converted to Right Hand Drive (no choice back then) and it was first registered in November 1973.I bought it and drove it home, the odometer clocked over 100,000 miles on the trip.
When I purchased the Satellite it was the factory stock 318 & 904 auto...boring !!
I had tried in vain to sell my VH E55 Charger that had a Yankee import 340 in it so I swapped engines & trans then sold off the Charger as a 318 car.

This is an article I wrote for the SA Charger Club Magazine when I was editor.. back in 1986 or so

Some-things are meant to happen. You know how it is, you go to the deli to get a paper and you bring home a box of chocolates. It was a Saturday in early October 1982 and my brother Michael was looking for a car so I grabbed the local paper to see what was available. I only got to the third ad and said "bugger" him this is more important. The ad read "Plymouth 1972 Satellite Coupe. Imported & first registered Aust Nov. 1973. 318 Auto mags. A Well kept eye-catching machine $3200." I was on the phone in a flash and spoke to Harvey who had brought her new in California, driven her around the USA for 6 weeks then had her shipped back home. He lived 200 Ks away at Lakes Entrance and would be home the next day. I got up early for a Sunday and with Michael we headed off. It was just after 9.00 am when we rounded the corner to Harvey's street and there in his driveway was this beautiful BLUE Satellite (Blue is my favourite colour). She was sold before we got out of the car!! Harvey took me for a ride around the town and I was impressed in how tight the body was with no rattles or squeaks. The 318 was bone stock with the only mod being a hot-dog muffler to give her a sweet exhaust note. I didn't even discuss the price and also brought a brand new Edlebrock 4bbl manifold as part of the deal. I was to pick her up the next weekend and drove back to Melbourne pleased as punch. The next Sunday (9/10/82) a work mate drove me back to Lakes Entrance and after handing over my cash I drove off in my Plymouth. The speedo showed 99800 miles and clocked over the 1000000 just before I got home. Other than the exhaust Harvey had removed the original bench - bucket seat and fitted brown falcon buckets into the blue interior (Yuk). I changed the mags for a set of sports wheels that the rears were widened to 8inch. The photo below was taken a weak after I bought her.
At the same time that I bought the satellite i had a VH E55 Charger that I had fitted a 3:00 LSD 9inch to as well as extractors and a shift kit in the 727. It ran 14.2 @ 103 mph (in 2nd) and was a tough little car, I tried to sell it to pay for the Plymouth but after weeks of advertising it I gave up. I took the 318/904 and swapped it for the 340/727 out of the E55. I sold the Charger as a 318 770 and fitted the 340 into the Satellite. I bought a set of tuned length extractors and had twin 2.5 inch exhausts bent up (remember this was 1982 and I had a hell of a job finding someone to do this) What a difference the new Satellite was, power & noise!!
